The first time I heard of Morray was through Jay-Z’s year end playlist. At this point, “Quicksand” had already been out for a couple of months, and Morray had put out a few more videos with his label Pick6ix Records.

Almost immediately, I was enthralled. Morray’s voice was incredible, the production of the song was great, and even better was the energy of the video.

Every now and then, you are introduced to an artist or person that you can’t help but want to see win. Morray is that guy. He’s been that guy since the second I hit play on “Quicksand”. Like I said, the song is amazing, but it was the man behind the song that made you love it even more. That same night, I heard “Switched Up”, another early single from Morray, which I happened to like even more.

Similar to “Quicksand”, this record featured modern trap production behind an absolutely stellar singing performance from Morray. The energy was, and still is undeniable. It would be easy to say that it’s pain that you hear in his voice, but that’s not it. It’s excitement. It’s passion. It’s love.

Over the past few months, I’ve been able to learn more about Morray, through his music, interviews, and everything else that he shares with the world. One thing that I learned, was how many jobs he had to get through to get to where he is now. Although he always had his family’s best interest at heart, he couldn’t hold a job. But when he sand, the world listened. Now it’s clear, THAT is what he’s here to do.

Last week, FRAGMENT RADIO was lucky enough to sit in on a press conference between Morray and the 1824 curated publications.

We learned quickly that the energy Morray portrays is nothing short of the truth. Even though he had literally just gotten off the plane when he hopped on a call with us, he was smiling, excited, and grateful for the opportunity to chat with people that love his music.

When asked about the pressures of his career, Morray told us that he feels more excited than anything else. Although his life has completely flipped upside down, he wouldn’t want it any other way. He’s elated about the opportunities that are coming to him, and is ready to “work until his hands bleed” - but only because he loves it.

And even when he’s asked about the criticism and critique he’s received, Morray is quick to show love. “There’s room for all music”, he reminded us. “I think we need all of it”.

This mentality is certainly empowering for Morray, but it’s also empowering his peers - the ones that he knows, and the ones he doesn’t.

Morray’s attitude of love and appreciation radiates from him. He’s happy for his success, of course, but truthfully, it feels like he’d be even happier if all of us could share his success.

On his debut project, Street Sermons, projects all these emotions we described. He describes the struggle and pain he’s endured, but never forgets to leave out his hope. Despite everything he’s been through, Morray has remained faithful, even if it was difficult to do. On his album, Street Sermons, he’s reminding listeners to do the same.

Through his lyrics, through his production, through his sequencing, and through the roll out, Morray has given the world exactly what they needed to hear on Street Sermons.
